Chaim Bloom on trading Xander Bogaerts and/or Rafael Devers: ‘We don’t plan to’
What a time it is to be a fan of the Boston Red Sox. The team currently sits on three games out of the final Wild Card spot, they’ve played some really bad and uninspiring baseball and yet they still have the talent to make a run for October.
With their recent play during the month of July where this team has gone a robust 6-15, it’s felt like Sox were destined to be sellers at the trade deadline.
Xander Bogaerts can opt-out of his contract after this season, J.D. Martinez and Nathan Eovaldi are also impending free agents, among others. The Sox have pieces they could move and could get a very good return for each player.
Despite their bad play and it’s been bad, just go back to Friday night against Toronto, the Red Sox aren’t waving the white flag.
In fact, Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy said just that on Tuesday while on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.”
“No one is waving the white flag – we’ve gone through an incredibly difficult stretch – we are not built to be a .500 club,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy went on to defend his bosses by saying, “I would say that thanks to this ownership group, we’ve been at the very, very top of spending in Major league baseball ever since we’ve been here.”
“Any narrative that this ownership group does not invest into this club is simply false,” Kennedy added.
Chaim Bloom also jumped into the conversation on Tuesday night while on NESN shooting down the rumors of waving the white flag and trading Bogaerts and Rafael Devers.
"I don't think anyone should be writing us off." On if next 6 days influence what team will do at deadline: "Yes and no...That can't swing too much based on one game or a couple games,” said Bloom on being buyers or sellers.
Bloom went on to add, “we’re trying to make the postseason” and on trading the left side of his infield, “we don’t plan to.”
Bloom doesn’t specifically shoot down trading other players but his comments about Bogaerts and Devers should put some ease to the players on the 26-man roster and the fan base.
However, the fan base will need to see Bloom put his words into action. Until then the fan base will be critical and concerned as to the direction of this team.
