After a slow start to the season, Chase Meidroth has found his groove at the plate. The WooSox infielder has been a hits machine and a bright spot in a lineup that is frustrating pitchers daily. With the California native on fire in the batters box, Worcester has been hard to stop.
Through his first 16 games in Triple-A, Meidroth has posted a .255 batting average and driven in eight runs. While those numbers don’t jump off the page, he has been a different player of late. Since April 14th, the talented 22-year-old recorded five multi-hit games and hit his first home run with Worcester.
As Meidroth has become a reliable run producer, WooSox manager Chad Tracy has taken notice.
“ Biggest impression thus far, even prior to this week, was the knowledge of the strike zone, “ Tracy said Friday night. “ He finds his way onto first base and doesn't expand out of the zone, and has good bat-to-ball skills. When guys do that, you know they are going to start hitting.”
Now, Meidroth is seeing his patience pay off and showing why he has quickly risen through the Red Sox system. In 149 games in the minors, the 2022 draftee has posted a .276 batting average. That includes a .316 average during the 2022 campaign in 22 games after being drafted. He continued to build on his success a year later, recording 108 hits in 11 games.
While the season is far from over, Tracy is pleased by what he sees from Meirdoth
“ Now the hits are coming, and he is really doing an awesome job right now,” Tracy said.
Additionally, during Meidroth’s surge at the plate, he has made the most of his chances with runners in scoring position. All eight of his RBIs have come in the last eight days. That production has made it hard for Tracy not to include Meidroth in the lineup over the last week.
As the games pile up, Meidroth has improved with every at-bat and is a player to watch only one call from the majors.
