The Celtics have made a huge trade just days before training camp is set to begin. Boston has landed guard Jrue Holiday from the Trail Blazers, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Celtics will send guard Malcom Brogdon, center Robert Williams III, a 2024 first-round pick acquired from the Warriors and their own 2029 unprotected first-round pick, per Wojnarowski.
Holiday was traded to the Blazers as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Damian Lillard to the Bucks earlier in the week.
Following the trade, the Blazers were reportedly already looking to trade Holiday. The Celtics were instantly one of the teams involved in talks and were said to be very aggressive in their pursuit of Holiday.
The 33-year-old is one of the best defensive guards in the league and will help bring his winning resume to the TD Garden.
Holiday is a five-time All-Defensive selection and a two-time All-Star. Last season, he was strong on offense for the Bucks, averaging 19.3 points, 7.4 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
The acquisition of Holiday helps the Celtics replace the loss of Marcus Smart who they traded to the Grizzlies over the summer.
