Ceddanne Rafaela to represent the Boston Red Sox in the All-Star Futures Game in Los Angeles
Red Sox prospect will represent the organization in the All-Star Futures Game at Dodger Stadium in 10 days. Major League Baseball announced Rafaela’s selection Wednesday afternoon.
Rafaela is”happy and excited” to represent the Red Sox organization in the Futures Game.
Rafaela is currently ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox 22nd-ranked prospect in their farm system. The young versatile infielder/outfielder has been impressive in 23 games with the Portland Sea Dogs.
The 21-year-old is hitting .278 with five doubles, two triples, six homers, 18 RBIs and three stolen bags.
As Rafaela has been elevated within the Sox system, he has remained incredibly humbled throughout the process.
“My ride with the Red sox has been great. I love it here. From the staff, to the players, it is great. Everything is great here. Moving up the rankings I don’t really let it get to my head, I stay humble and play my game and give it my all every single time I step on the field regardless if it practice or the actual game. It is an awesome feeling of getting closer to your goal, it’s impossible to explain, it’s like your hard work is paying off, the hard work is not done, but you get a little boost along the way. It’s just awesome,” said Rafaela to Beyond the Monster back in June.
The versatile Rafaela has shown he has the athleticism to turn the contact he makes at the plate into extra bases. His game is not predicated on hitting homers, it’s driving the ball into the gap and focusing on extra bases.
Betts had a very similar approach as he excelled within the Red Sox system. The former American League MVP has focused on plate discipline, Betts finds the right pitch to swing at and he makes good contact with that swing.
Here is a side by side look of both Betts and Rafaela. It’s eerie how similar both players look at the plate.
The Futures Game will be played on July 16, 2022 during All-Star weekend in Los Angeles.
