Martínez makes debut for Worcester after signing minor league deal
Carlos Martínez, 30, made his Red Sox debut in Triple-A Worcester and it was anything but a delight of an outing for the former two-time MLB All-Star.
Martínez only worked two thirds of an inning and allowed five runs on four hits and two walks and exited the game with a 67.50 ERA.
Martínez signed a minor-league deal with the club on May 5 after his release from the San Francisco Giants on April 28 where he was also working under a minor-league contract.
Prior to signing with Boston, Martínez spent nine seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals where he went 62-52 with an 3.74 ERA. During those nine seasons he produced 927 strikeouts, 373 walks, 433 runs with 402 being earned.
He earned a place on the National League All-Star roster in 2015 and 2017.
If Martínez can remain healthy he could be a potential valuable addition to the Red Sox rotation down the line.
