Late rally puts Hyannis past Bourne, Y-D steamrolls Harwich and Johnson and Cole go deep for Cotuit
Harbor Hawks 5, Braves 1
Tito Flores had an RBI double and Rocco Peppi and Mitch Jebb each singled home a run as part of a five-run eighth as Hyannis stunned Bourne late to extend its unbeaten streak to six games.
Jebb later scored on a wild pitch and Justin Janas’ sacrifice fly scored Flores to cap off the rally. Ethan Hammerberg (1-0) picked up the win, and starter Austin Amaral worked six innings, allowing three hits, one run and one walk while striking out four.
The Bravos scored their lone run in the bottom of the first. Matt Shaw walked to lead off the inning, stole second and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Christopher Brito.
Will Sandy (0-1) struggled in his Bourne debut, allowing all five runs (three earned) on four hits.
Red Sox 9, Mariners 0
Jack Costello hit a three-run homer and Cole Carrigg added a pair of RBIs in Y-D’s rout of Harwich.
Carrigg had three hits on the day, Caden Connor added two and Michael Boeve scored four runs as part of the offensive eruption. Starter Ivran Romero (1-0) went five innings to record his first win, scattering just two hits while striking out four.
The Mariners were held in check offensively, tallying just four hits. Kenny Levari doubled, and Joe Vetrano, Ryan McCarty and Pres Cavenaugh each had a base hit.
Kettleers 3, Firebirds 2
Tyler Johnson and Zachary Cole had solo home runs and Joseph Gieg notched a nine-out save to lead Cotuit over Orleans.
Gieg surrendered two hits, one run, one walk and fanned three to secure the Ketts’ first home win since June 23. In addition to Johnson and Cole’s home runs, Cameron Collier also drove in a run in the second inning on a groundout.
Luke Keaschall homered in the third for the Birds, and Orleans tacked on one more run in the seventh when Bennett Lee scored on Travis Honeyman’s fielder’s choice.
Gatemen 6, Commodores 4
Matt Jachec nearly recorded a quality start and Wareham used a five-run sixth inning to get by Falmouth at Spillane Field.
Jachec went five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five. It was his first outing of the season in which he did not record a loss. The ‘Dores took a quick 2-0 lead before the Gatemen scored six unanswered runs. Ty Evans’ three-run homer and Kellum Clark’s RBI single headlined the sixth-inning charge.
Colby Halter, Jacob Walsh and Jacob Cozart each had two hits as part of Falmouth’s 10-hit showing. Cozart also had two RBIs.
Whitecaps 2, Anglers 0
Brian Fitzpatrick gave Brewster five scoreless innings as it took down Chatham to pick up its third consecutive win.
Fitzpatrick (1-0) struck out eight and allowed just three hits while issuing zero walks. Ryan Chasse also picked up his second save of the season, working around a leadoff single to strike out the side in the ninth.
Grayson Tatrow had an RBI single and Alex Freeland had a sacrifice fly for the Caps, while five different players had a single for the A’s, who had just five hits.
