Cape League roundup: June 22
Harris' go-ahead two-RBI single leads Bourne over Chatham, Hyannis finds its offense and Keaschall's homer hands Orleans a win
Braves 5, Anglers 4
Dakota Harris hit a go-ahead two-RBI single in the bottom of the eighth as the Bourne topped Chatham at Doran Park.
With one out in the frame, John Peck doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Wyatt Henseler was intentionally walked. Lane Forsythe pinch ran for Henseler, stole second, and Harris delivered the hit of the game to drive both runners home.
Tyler Vogel (1-0) picked up the win behind two innings of no-hit relief, while Carlos Rey (0-1) gave up three runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Carson Roccaforte went 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Bravos, and Jake DeLeo had one of Chatham’s three hits in addition to a walk with the bases loaded in the seventh.
Harbor Hawks 7, Whitecaps 1
Mitchell Jebb and Ildefonso Ruiz each had two hits as Hyannis cruised by Brewster.
Jebb had a double and triple and Ruiz added two RBIs as the Hawks picked up their second win over the last three games. Starter Jackson Baumeister surrendered just two hits and one walk across four innings of work while striking out five.
The Caps scored their lone run of the game in the fifth on Alex Freeland’s sacrifice fly that brought home Chase Adkison. Adkison went 3-for-4, and Michael Sirota went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Firebirds 2, Red Sox 0
Luke Keaschall’s two-run homer in the sixth was all it took for Orleans to edge Y-D to extend its win streak to four games.
Keaschall now has an eight-game hit streak and is hitting .306 on the season. Bryce Warrecker (1-0) earned the win after tossing just 2/3 of an inning, and AJ Blubaugh notched his second save of the season.
The Red Sox mustered just three hits on the evening, two of which came from Jonathon Long. Eric Yost (0-2) suffered the loss despite allowing just one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out three.
Gatemen 5, Mariners 3
Cameron Weston provided four strong innings out of the bullpen as Wareham defeated Harwich to snap a four-game losing skid.
Weston (2-0) held the Mariners scoreless, giving up just one hit while punching out three. The Gatemen went into the ninth with a 3-2 lead, but tacked on some insurance when Jack Housinger scored on a balk and Michael Robertson came home on Kenny Levari’s error over at third.
Kyle Teel, Ryan McCarty and Gino Groover each had two hits for Harwich, and Chase Engelhard drove in two of the Mariners’ three runs on his one-out homer in the bottom of the second.
Kettleers 3, Commodores 3
A ninth-inning rally allowed Cotuit to tie with Falmouth, although it did see its eight-game win streak come to an end.
The Ketts went into the final frame trailing 3-1, but Victor Scott II and Kyle Karros came home on an error after Chandler Simpson reached base on a fielder’s choice. With runners on first and second and two outs, Brooks Baldwin grounded out to first, handing Cotuit its first result other than a win this season.
Grayson Hitt was great for the ‘Dores, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, one run and a walk while striking out five. Jack Payton went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Brayden Taylor went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run.
