Furman's double leads Orleans over Falmouth, Cotuit continues to dominate and Wilson and Sim go deep
Firebirds 3, Commodores 2 (Game 1)
Nate Furman had a go-ahead two-run double in the top of the sixth as Orleans defeated Falmouth in the opening game of the teams’ doubleheader.
Kyle Carr (1-0) was solid out of the bullpen, going 2 2/3 innings to pick up the win. He gave up two hits, zero runs, walked one and struck out four. AJ Blubaugh then recorded the final out of the game to grab the save.
Luke Keaschall went 2-for-3 for the Birds, and Jacob Stinson drove in Jacob Wilson with a sacrifice fly.
The ‘Dores scored early on Jack Payton’s RBI single in the first and tacked on their second run in the third before being held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Kettleers 1, Whitecaps 0 (Game 1)
Carter Trice scored on a walk-off wild pitch and Harrison Cohen and Jackson Kelly surrendered just three hits as Cotuit blanked Brewster to begin the twinbill.
Cohen walked one while striking out three and Kelley (1-0) struck out six through three innings to pitch the Ketts to their fourth shutout of the season.
Whitecaps starter Cade Kuehler went 4 2/3 shutout innings, allowing four hits and three walks. He struck out six. Dixon Black doubled and Grayson Tatrow and Cameron Leary each had singles to account for Brewster’s three hits.
Kettleers 5, Whitecaps 0 (Game 2)
CJ Kayfus went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Zachary Cole and Caleb Lomavita each added two hits as Cotuit shut down Brewster to extend its win streak to seven games.
Cole added two RBIs, and the Kettleers once again saw a great performance from their pitching staff. Tyler Bosma gave up just two hits, two walks and struck out five through three innings, William Privette (2-0) threw three innings of one-hit relief and TJ Brock worked around a walk to strike out the side in the seventh.
The Caps were once again held to just three hits, falling to 4-4 on the season.
Firebirds 3, Commodores 1 (Game 2)
Jacob Wilson and Kevin Sim each hit solo home runs to power Orleans over Falmouth to sweep the day-night doubleheader.
Travis Honeyman also had a sacrifice fly to plate Diego Baqueiro, and starter Ben Shields went five innings, allowing one run on four hits while walking two and striking out three. Shane Telfer pitched a scoreless sixth, and Chris Clark struck out a pair in the seventh to earn his first save of the season.
Juaron Watts-Brown (0-1) gave up two runs on four hits in three innings of work. He struck out four while issuing no walks. Andrew Pinckney went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run for Falmouth, which has dropped three of its last four.
