Clark has big day, Wells silences A's out of the bullpen and Brewster wins third straight
Gatemen 11, Harbor Hawks 5
Ian Farrow and Kellum Clark each had three RBIs as Wareham dominated Hyannis on the road.
Clark went 3-for-5 with three doubles and a run, and Farrow went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two walks. The first seven hitters of the Gatemen’s starting lineup all recorded at least one hit.
Lynn, Massachusetts, native Bobby Alcock (1-0) threw two perfect innings of relief to earn the win, while starter Jackson Baumeister (0-1) failed to record an out for the Harbor Hawks, surrendering four runs on four hits and two walks in the first inning.
Nolan Schanuel went 2-for-5 with a run for Hyannis, and Justin Janas added an RBI triple. Zachary Voelker was solid out of the bullpen, providing three shutout innings. He allowed just two hits and struck out two.
Commodores 5, Anglers 4
Reliever Levi Wells struck out six through three innings of work as Falmouth squeaked by Chatham to pick up their first win of the season.
Wells (1-0) allowed just one hit and struck out two while holding the A’s scoreless. He exited the game with a 5-2 lead, but the Anglers pulled within one in the seventh after Noah Ledford got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Adonys Herrera’s single drove home Matthew Hogan.
That would be the closest Chatham would get, and Joey Ryan closed the game with his first save of the season. The Anglers’ pitching staff struggled with control all night, walking 10 Commodores.
Whitecaps 7, Firebirds 2
Henry Leake was had a stellar debut on the mound as Brewster cruised by Orleans to extend its win streak to three games.
Leake (1-0) went five innings, allowing four hits, no runs and no walks while striking out eight. The Caps jumped out to an early lead, striking for five runs in the third inning behind two-RBI singles from Grayson Tatrow and Kurtis Byrne.
The Firebirds failed to score until the eighth inning, where Jake Cunningham doubled to drive in a pair. Jacob Wilson had three hits for Orleans, and Jacob Stinson had two.
Kettleers 7, Braves 0
Carter Trice hit a two-run homer and Justin Miknis had a two-RBI single as part of a six-run fourth inning as Cotuit blanked Bourne to remain undefeated.
All six runs were charged to Braves starter Adam Tulloch (0-1), who lasted just 3 1/3 innings. Brooks Baldwin went 3-for-5 for the Ketts, and Zachary Cole went 2-for-4 after being signed and activated on Wednesday.
Dakota Harris had a triple, Ryan Leitch doubled and Evan Sleight singled to account for the Bravos’ only three hits.
Mariners 2, Red Sox 1
Cole Harting scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning as Harwich edged Y-D to earn back-to-back wins.
Kyle Teel grounded into a double play, but Harting came across the plate to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead. Joe Savino and Hunter Hodges shut out the Sox for the final four innings after starter Carlson Reed (1-0) allowed three hits, one run, one walk and struck out five through five innings.
Nick Goodwin had two of Harwich’s five hits to bump his batting average up to .467 on the young season, while Michael Boeve went 2-for-4 with a double for Yarmouth-Dennis.
