Cape League roundup: July 5
Guillemette's 3-run shot gives Orleans a point in the standings in only game on Cape
Firebirds 4, Whitecaps 4
Garret Guillemette hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to allow Orleans to tie with Brewster in what was the only game of the night on the Cape.
With the Birds trailing 4-1, Kevin Sim singled and Austin Knight walked before Guillemette’s two-out blast evened the score heading into the final frame. The Caps would get Alex Freeland to second with one out in the top of the ninth, but could not bring around the go-ahead run.
Brewster starter Grant Taylor was fantastic, scattering five hits across six scoreless innings. He struck out five and didn’t issue a walk. Freeland, Trevor Werner, Logan Bravo and Javier Vaz each had two hits for the Whitecaps, and Chase Demartini added a two-RBI double.
Sim had three hits for Orleans, Knight had two and Luke Keaschall went 2-for-4 with a walk.
