Cotuit pitching staff dominates, Brown comes up in the clutch and Shapiro clashes with familiar foe

Kettleers 4, Commodores 0

Cotuit blanked its opponent for the second time in just as many nights as it defeated Falmouth to open the season with back-to-back shutouts.

George Washington right-hander Harrison Cohen (1-0) got the start for the Ketts and went five innings, allowing just two hits. He surrendered zero walks and struck out two. Jackson Kelley then struck out seven through four innings of relief to earn a 12-out save.

Graham Pauley went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a walk to pace Cotuit, and Justin Miknis tacked on a solo home run. Alex Mooney recorded two of the Commodores’ four hits, but the rest of the order combined to go just 2-for-26 (.077).

Ben Hess recorded a no-decision, exiting after three innings. The right-hander gave up two hits, no runs, two walks and struck out five.

Anglers 5, Mariners 2

Marcus Brown had a two-RBI single as part of a three-run third as Chatham took down Harwich to pick up its first win of the season.

Brown’s single broke a 1-1 tie after Guy Garibay Jr. had been hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. All three runs came with two outs.

Magnus Ellerts (1-0) took the win behind 3 2/3 innings of work, allowing just one hit, no runs and one walk while striking out seven. German Fajardo (0-1) took the loss after being chased from the game after just 2 2/3 innings.

Braves 2, Gatemen 2

Bourne lost hold of a late lead as it tied with Wareham in its first meeting with former field manager Harvey Shapiro.

The Braves did not get their offense going until late, posting two runs in the eighth thanks to John Peck, who tripled home a run before crossing the plate after Chris Brito reached base on an error. Former Bourne infielder Max Anderson tied things in the bottom of the frame, bringing home Hogan Windish with a sacrifice fly.

It was a pitching duel up until the sixth, as starters Hunter Loyd (BOU) and Jonathan Brand (WAR) each pitched five scoreless innings. Loyd gave up two hits, walked one and struck out one, and Brand surrendered one hit, no walks and punched out five.

Whitecaps 3, Red Sox 0

Brennen Milone posted his second consecutive multi-hit game to begin the season as Brewster defeated Y-D in its home opener.

The Oregon infielder went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and Grayson Tatrow added an RBI single. John West (1-0) was stellar in relief, allowing five hits through four scoreless innings while striking out two.

Brewster got all three of its runs through the first three innings off Red Sox starter Eric Yost, but the trio of Bryce Robison, Matt Kavanaugh and Shaun Gamelin provided four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Harbor Hawks 3, Firebirds 0

Jacob Campbell and Justin Janas each tallied a pair of hits as Hyannis bested Orleans at McKeon Park.

The duo accounted for four of the team’s six hits, with Campbell scoring two of the team’s three runs. Rocco Peppi picked up his second RBI of the season, singling home Rikuu Nishida in the eighth. The Hawks’ bullpen allowed just one hit through five innings of work, with Wes Burton (1-0) securing the win and Jay Driver notching the save.

Travis Honeyman doubled to lead off the top of the first, but the Firebirds were only able to muster two singles for the remainder of the game.
