Cape Cod League roundup: June 12
Goodwin has grand showing, Wareham squeaks by and Braves get revenge
Mariners 9, Commodores 2
Kansas State infielder Nick Goodwin had a massive night at the plate as Harwich topped Falmouth.
Goodwin went 3-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs, a double and three runs scored in his Mariners debut after spending last season in Bourne.
Joe Vetrano added two singles and two RBIs, and Leominster, Massachusetts, native Jonathan Santucci (1-0) picked up the win.
The Commodores took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second after Justin Jordan blooped a single into left field, but Harwich went on to score eight unanswered runs.

Gatemen 2, Harbor Hawks 1
Three hits was all it took for Wareham to take down Hyannis in the team’s first game under new field manager Harvey Shapiro.
After Rocco Peppi’s solo shot in the seventh inning broke a scoreless tie, the Gatemen responded with a pair of runs thanks to an RBI double from Hogan Windish and a sacrifice fly from Blake Wright.
The Wareham pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts on the night, six of which came from starter Michael Sansone. Luke Benneche (1-0) picked up the win after allowing one run through three innings of relief.
Braves 5, Whitecaps 3
Jack Duffy and Wyatt Henseler each drove in a pair of runs as Bourne defeated Brewster in a rematch of last season’s championship series.
The middle of the Braves’ order (Chris Britto-Duffy-Henseler) combined to go 7-for-10 on the night. Sam Bello, Ryan Fischer (1-0) and Ty Cummings each threw three innings for Bourne, with Cummings earning a nine-out save.
Brewster scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning. Cameron Leary scored on a sacrifice fly, Logan Bravo came home on a wild pitch and Brennan Milone scored on a fielder’s choice. Milone paced the Whitecaps offense, going 3-for-4 with a double.
Kettleers 5, Anglers 0
Peyton Williams’ two-run homer headlined a three-run second inning as Cotuit blanked Chatham.
Both teams tallied just four hits apiece in the showing. Two of the Anglers’ hits came from Caden Grice, who returns to Chatham after hitting .250 through nine games with the A’s last summer.
William Privette was dominant on the mound in the bottom of the ninth, working around one walk to strike out the side and secure the win.
Red Sox 4, Firebirds 4
Cole Carrigg hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to prevent Orleans from dropping its season opener as it tied with Y-D.
Carrigg also tallied a couple of singles, and Michael Boeve went 2-for-4 with a run. After Y-D starter Will Rudy allowed four runs, three of which were earned, relievers Jared Lyons and Dylan Ray held Orleans scoreless through the final four innings.
Luke Keaschall homered for the Firebirds to start off his second season with the team, and Jacob Stinson had an RBI single as part of a three-run first inning. Field manager Kelly Nicholson turned to five pitchers on opening night, with starter Wyatt Loncar logging the longest outing. He went three innings, allowing five hits, three runs and two walks while striking out one.
