Bryan Mata made his second rehab start for the Geeenville Drive on Thursday and it went as planned.
Mata, who is suffered a season ending UCL injury and then elected to get Tommy John surgery missed the entire 2021 campaign.
The seventh ranked prospect made his debut last Saturday for Low-A Salem. During that outing Mata worked two innings, allowing no runs on a hit while striking out two. He threw 45 pitches, 27 for strike.
On Friday evening Mata worked three innings allowing a run, a hit, two walks, and striking out five. He threw 54 pitches, 28 for strike.
Mata has seven strikeouts through five innings of work and holds a 1.80 ERA during this rehab stint.
If everything stays on track with Mata’s health, the righty could pitch for Double-A Portland for his next rehab outing.
