After two straight losses to start the week, the Boston Bruins got back in the win column on Saturday night in thrilling fashion. Brad Marchand netted his first goal of the season to give the Bruins a 4-3 win. While the Bruins continued to struggle offensively this week, there were three bright spots in Justin Brazeau, David Pastrnak, and Matthew Poitras.
Justin Brazeau:
Over the last two games, Brazeau has provided a spark offensively. After going scoreless in his first five games, the 26-year-old found the back of the net against the Stars and the Maple Leafs. Although he is not known for his scoring touch, Brazeau only needs three more goals to match his total from last season. His unexpected offensive contributions were a welcome sign to end the week.
Season Stats: 7 games, 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 points
David Pastrnak:
Through the Bruins' first nine games, Pastrnak has again been their best goal scorer. The former first-round pick has three points in his last two games after going scoreless against Nashville on Tuesday. While the Bruins need more from their top line, Pastrnak has done his part and leads the team in goals. Entering play on Sunday, his six goals are tied for the third most in the NHL.Â
Season Stats: 9 games, 6 goals, 2 assists, 8 points
Matthew Poitras:
Following an impressive rookie campaign, expectations were high for Poitras entering the 2024-2025 campaign. While the 20-year-old is still searching for his first goal of the season, he has looked much better lately, with at least one assist in two straight games. The Bruins will need Poitras to build on his recent play as they look to get consistency from all their lines. Along with Brazeau and Pasternak, Poitras was the only Bruins player to record a point against the Stars and Maple Leafs.
Season stats: 7 games, 0 goals, 3 assists, 3 points
After two days of rest, the Bruins are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to TD Garden. Through their first eight games, the Flyers have posted a 2-5-1 record.Â
