The Boston Bruins looked to come out with a win Monday night after suffering two consecutive losses for the first time this season, but they left Nationwide Arena with their third straight.
This is the first time the Bruins have lost three in a row since April 2022.
The first 15 minutes of the first period were scoreless until Dmitri Voronkov scored the Blue Jackets’ first goal with a wrist shot at 15:52. Ivan Provorov and Yegor Chinakhov both had goals in the second period, padding the lead to 3-0.
Linus Ullmark replaced Jeremy Swayman in the Bruins goal after the Jackets’ second goal of the game. Swayman made 17 saves in 26:14. Ullmark made 19 saves.
The Bruins entered the third down 3-0. This is the third game in a row they have found themselves down by two or more goals going into the third period.
Shortly into the third, Kirill Marchenko added to the Jackets’ lead with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 04:51. Matthew Poitras responded a few minutes later with the B’s first goal of the game at 08:24, cutting the lead to 4-1.
In order to try to spark the offense, Head Coach Jim Montgomery pulled Ullmark to add an extra player in the offensive zone, but that spark was dimmed after an empty-net goal by Justin Danforth, putting Columbus up 5-1.
John Beecher would score the Bruins second and last goal of the game at 17:40 before the 5-2 final.
The B’s look to bounce back against the 4-15-2 San Jose Sharks at TD Garden on Thursday, Nov. 30.
