Bruins sign veteran forward to PTO deal
The Bruins added veteran right winger Alex Chiasson to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).
The former Boston University forward played 20 games for the Red Wings last season where he scored six goals and added three assists. Chiasson played 29 games for the AHL’s Grand Rapid Griffins last season and scored nine goals and had 11 assists.
The 32-year-old made his NHL debut with the Stars back during the 2012-2013 season. He has also played for the Oilers, Senators, Capitals and Canucks.
The 11-year NHL forward is now on his fifth PTO of his career and his third straight. Last season, Chiasson signed a PTO with the Coyotes but he did not make their roster and sat out the beginning of the 2022-23 season.
Chiassson is a veteran of 651 career NHL games. His best season was back in 2018-2019, he had career-highs in goals with 22 and points with 38 over 73 games.
The 6-foot-4 right shot is known for his ability on the power play, last season five of this six goals for the Red Wings came with the man advantage.
It’s not known yet as to how Chiasson fits with the Bruins. The veteran will provide depth at right-wing and projects more as fourth line option for Boston.
According to Joe Haggerty, the Bruins have been interested in Chiasson for years. Boston reportedly tried to trade for him as part of the Tyler Sequin deal.
