Bruins sign forward Matthew Poitras to an entry level contract
The Boston Bruins signed forward Matthew Poitras to a three-year, entry level contract, the team announced on Friday.
The deal will hold a cap hit of $870k and worth a total of $2.61 million.
Poitras was selected in the second-round, 54th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft.
The 19-year-old forward had a huge season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm. He scored 16 goals and 95 points in 63 games last season.
Poitras was born in Brooklin, Ontario and will give the Bruins a top center prospect in their system.
The Bruins have two key veterans in Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci who are undecided if they’ll return to the team next season.Poitras can develop while in their system while the Bruins figure out their roster for next season and beyond.
According to Pro Hockey Rumors, due to his age, if Poitras plays less than 10 NHL games next season, the beginning of his deal will defer to the 2024-25 season.
