The Boston Bruins have announced their final roster moves to get to 22 skaters for opening night. They have sent their top defenseman prospect Mason Lohrei to the AHL Providence Bruins for more development. They also have signed Danton Heinen to a league minimum contract after being in camp on a professional tryout and recalled forward Patrick Brown.
The opening night lineup will feature 19-year-old Matthew Poitras, who registered his first NHL point and 22-year-old Johnny Beecher. Poitras established himself being on the roster with leading the team with three goals.
Captain Brad Marchand had a lofty comparison for Poitras, “Just reminds me of Mitch Marner. It’s similar where he’s not timid to get into the dirty areas and compete for pucks. He’s got great vision. He does a great job of cutting to the middle and buying himself some space.” Marner has accumulated 554 points in 507 career games.
Beecher was drafted 30th overall in the 2019 draft. He makes for another lefty faceoff option and is able to use his frame and physicality to create takeaways. For the first time in awhile, the Bruins have two young players that will be relied upon for minutes right out of the gate.
Head coach Jim Montgomery announced Linus Ullmark as his starting goaltender for the first game.
