Jakobi Meyers signs with Las Vegas Raiders
The Patriots lose their top wide receiver in free agency
Jakobi Meyers is leaving the Patriots, the wide receiver has agreed to a deal with Las Vegas Raiders. The deal is for three-years, $33 million, with $21 million guaranteed, per Ian Rapoport.
Mac Jones has lost his number one target and the Patriots will look to replace the Georgia native. Meyers lead the Patriots wide receivers last year in receptions, yards and touchdowns. He amassed 67 catches on 96 targets for 804 yards and six touchdowns. The next closest to those numbers was Devante Parker with 31 catches, 539 yards and only three touchdowns.
Meyers started in the NFL in 2019 as a starter. In his career he has played in 60 games and has had 235 catches, 2758 yards, with 8 touchdowns. Remarkably despite the targets each year Meyers did not have a touchdown until his third year in the league.
The Patriots had a need at wide receiver even before today. Now with Meyers gone, the need has gotten even greater. Names such as Odell Beckham, Adam Thielen, and Marvin Jones are players that are still available.
