Brayan Bello and Ceddanne Rafaela to represent Red Sox in Futures Game
High-profile names represent the Red Sox in MLB Futures Game
On July 16 the Futures Game will be held in Los Angeles before the annual MLB All-Star Game on July 19.
The rosters are loaded with top-tier talent as they always are, but two Red Sox prospects will be representing the organization and they are Brayan Bello and Ceddanne Rafaela.
The rosters:
If Bello is in the big leagues during the All-Star break, he won’t be eligible to pitch in the Futures Game.
Bello, who is the Red Sox top pitching prospect made noise this season jumping from Double-A to the Majors in less than three months of served time this year. While Rafaela, who’s the clubs 26th ranked prospect jumped from High-A to Double-A after making a name for himself both offensively and defensively.
Bello made his MLB debut on Wednesday night in Boston against Tampa Bay. And while some critics will quickly jump out and say his performance was “below-par” and “not good enough” need to be reminded that Bello is only 23 and within time will settle down and make a name for himself in the big leagues.
“It was a unique experience. I was very happy to be out there. Every pitch, every batter was very emotional for me to be out there,” Bello said through interpreter Carlos Villoria Benítez. “It’s not going to be the last time for me to be out there.”
Bello had 114 strikeouts in 85 innings of work between Double-A and Triple-A prior to being promoted.
As for Rafaela, the quick utility man for the Sox has slashed .370/.350/.577 with an OPS of .927 and has 15 homers along with 54 RBI this season between High-A and Double-A. He also has 18 stolen bases. Last year he had 21 in Salem.
Rafaela stated to Beyond the Monster back in June that he was just staying humble no matter what.
“My ride with the Red sox has been great. I love it here. From the staff, to the players, it is great. Everything is great here. Moving up the rankings I don’t really let it get to my head, I stay humble and play my game and give it my all every single time I step on the field regardless if it practice or the actual game. It is an awesome feeling of getting closer to your goal, it’s impossible to explain, it’s like your hard work is paying off, the hard work is not done, but you get a little boost along the way. It’s just awesome,” said Rafaela back in mid-June.
