Since making his NHL debut during the 2016- 2017 campaign, Brandon Carlo has become a mainstay on the Bruins blueline. While the former second-round pick is not a points machine, he does bring value on a nightly basis. That has continued over the last few weeks.
Through 17 games this season, Carlo has added five points to his resume, including four assists. He has at least one point in two out of his last three games, as the Bruins offense has been hard to stop. Charlie McAvoy is the only Bruins defenseman with more points.
Additionally, the Colorado native has made an impact while getting more playing time. He is averaging 20:33 of ice time a game, which, if the season ended today, would be his highest total since the 2019-2020 campaign. Even though Carlo's impact may not always show up on the stat sheet, Bruins' head coach, Jim Montgomery, has a lot of confidence in his game.
"He does a lot of things defensively. He puts out a lot of fires for a lot of mistakes that other teammates are making," Montgomery told reporters Saturday night. "That is why he is so valuable to us and inside our locker room why he's so valuable and why his teammates love him."
As the season continues, Carlo's play will be critical to the Bruins' success. He has already blocked 32 shots and dished out 10 hits. While those numbers may not jump off the page, the 26-year-old has shown that he is not afraid to sacrifice his body to help his team win.
With the Bruins off to one of their best starts in recent memory, Carlo has taken his game to another level.
