Brad Marchand approaching another career milestone
During the 2023-2024 campaign Brad Marchand has provided a reminder of his importance with his elite play. The Bruins captain has also added a few impressive accolades to his resume, including moving into fifth place points-wise in franchise history. However, he is not done making history.
Entering play on Saturday, Marchand has appeared in 998 games. On February 13th, he is set to appear in his 1,000th game with the Bruins, something only seven players have done in franchise history. That list includes David Krejci, Patrice Bergeron, Ray Bourque, Johnny Bucyk, Don Sweeney and Wayne Cashman.
While Marchand’s primary focus is winning another championship, reaching the 1,000-game mark is not something he is taking for granted.
“Even now, I’m proud of it and I’m happy about it, but I still feel like I have so much more,” Marchand told NHL.com’s Amalie Benjamin when asked about reaching 1,000 games. “There’s bigger accolades than that now.”
In his 15th NHL season, Marchand is showing no signs of slowing down. Through 51 games, he has scored 25 goals and dished out 23 assists. The Halifax native has continued to be dangerous on the power play with 21 points. Regardless of who is on his line, Marchand’s production has remained the same.
While the regular season is far from over, the Bruins are in a favorable position to make a deep playoff run. That is partly due to the play of their captain, who is not holding anything back as he approaches another significant milestone.
“I would like to play until at least 40,” Marchand told Benjamin. “ Another five years is kind of what I’m targeting. And then after that it’ll depend on how my body’s holding up, if I can handle the load day to day.”
