Boston Red Sox Top Prospect Josh Winckowski Will Start Saturday Against Baltimore
Winckowski leads a long line of intriguing arms in the deeper than usual Red Sox farm system.
The first of many intriguing young arms down in the Red Sox farm system is making his debut this weekend. Josh Winckowski, who debuted on Beyond the Monster not too long ago, looks like he should fit right in with the pitching staff and should be able to stick around after his first start.
Winckowski came over to the Red Sox in the Andrew Benintendi trade alongside Franchy Cordero and a few other prospects in the low minors. With his pitch mix now improved with a new cutter, look for Winckowski to establish his 97 MPH fastball early in counts. Along with the cutter, he has an above average slider as well as a changeup to induce swing and misses.
Winckowski had a pretty good stat line in Worcester. Posting a 2.25 ERA to go along with a .67 WHIP. If he can keep his impressive 9.8 K/9, look for the right hander to establish him in the rotation or land himself a bullpen spot for the long run. This will be the first of many for Josh Winckowski in a Red Sox uniform.
