Boston projected to take Tennessee OF Jordan Beck in MLB Draft
Which direction will the Boston Red Sox go in the MLB Draft?
The 2022 MLB Draft will again take place during MLB All-Star weekend, from July 17-19 in Los Angeles. The draft will be 20 rounds, with the first two rounds and supplemental rounds taking place on July 17, rounds 3-10 taking place on July 18 and rounds 11-20 taking place on July 19.
That being said, the Boston Red Sox have the 24th overall pick.
Jim Callis, from MLB.com, did a full first-round, 30-player draft mock and he has the Red Sox selecting Tennessee Volunteers outfielder Jordan Beck with their selection. The Red Sox did however select Beck out of high school three years ago.
Here is what Callis said on the Beck selection:
Four of the next five projected picks are college bats, and they all could go in the teens if teams prefer safer picks than high school pitchers. The Red Sox selected Beck in the 14th round out of an Alabama high school three years ago and he often gets compared to Hunter Renfroe, who made a similar leap in his third SEC season.
Beyond the Moster took a look at another potential draft selection in Jud Fabian, the Florida Gators standout outfielder but the two sides could not come to an agreement last year on an agreement. Thus, Boston received a compensatory pick, No. 41 overall in this year’s MLB Draft. It is important to note that Boston could not pick Fabian again in this year’s draft unless he granted permission to do, which likely will not happen.
Beck has 13 home runs and 21 RBI for Tennessee this year along with 12 doubles and one triple with an average of .314.
The Junior has had a career season with the Vols as he has hit a three-run home run and scored twice in a win over Kentucky. He went two-for-two with one home run and four RBI in win against Alabama A&M. Not only that but, he had two hits, including the game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth, in the series-clinching win over Auburn and hit a grand slam to help the Vols defeat Missouri.
Here are his career highs, provided by the Tennessee Volunteers stat page:

Beck would bring two things to the Red Sox. Speed and power. He can play the outfield to perfection with very little mistakes and while at the plate he waits patiently for “his pitch” and can deliver it over the wall when the pitcher makes a mistake. Beck has the pop in his swing that would make any scout want to make a push for an organization to draft him.
Beck did get some pro action last year as he played in the Cape Cod League with the Harwich Mariners. During his time there, he played in 27 games where he had an .267 average and hit two home runs with 10 RBI with four doubles and a triple. Out of his eight stolen base attempts he was only caught one time.
If the Boston does go in the direction to draft Beck, the fans will enjoy watching him play for years to come.
