It was not a good day for Red Sox affiliates on Thursday, April 28. Three of the affiliates only produced three runs while Triple-A Worcester scored four runs.
Speaking of Worcester, they would lose 5-4 to Buffalo. Franchy Cordero went 1-for-4 with two RBI and Ronaldo Hernández went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Thomas Pannone, who got the start and was tagged with the loss, worked five innings, allowing six hits, three runs and struck out five. The pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts on the evening.
On the Double-A side of things, Portland would get blown out by Somerset, 15-3. Portland got seven hits with two coming from David Hamilton and two from Delvin Granberg. Producing the run supply would be Tyler Dearden as he hit a three-run home run, his first of the season. The Sea Dogs pitching staff would get a combined nine strikeouts on the evening. Starter Victor Santos would work six innings, allowing five hits, four runs and four strikeouts. He was also tagged with the loss, his second of the season. Brendan Nail worked one inning out of the pen allowing four hits, three runs and striking out three. Oddanier Mosqueda would work just one inning for Portland giving up three hits, three runs and striking out two.
High-A Greenville would see their losing woes continue as they have now lost eight straight after falling 4-3 to Hickory. Gilberto Jimenez hit his third home run of the season. The Drive’s pitchers produced nine strikeouts with six of those coming from their starter Wyatt Olds. Olds would work give the Drive five strong innings allowing two runs on two hits. The relief pitchers then combined for three strikeouts, three hits and two runs.
Single-A Salem was tagged with a 6-3 loss to Lynchburg. Nathan Hickey hit his second home run of the season and drove in two runs on a two-for-three game. The Red Sox pitching staff combined for five strikeouts with starter Wikelman Gonzalez getting two and relief pitcher Jhonny Felix also getting two. Alexander Montero, who was tagged with the loss, allowed five hits, three runs, and struck out one.
All four teams will look to bounce back today.
