The Salem Red Sox were the only Red Sox affiliate to play on Monday evening. Prior to the game, the Salem Red Sox honored military veterans for Memorial Day.
Boston’s top prospect Marcelo Mayer returned to the lineup after suffering wrist soreness, which landed him on the injured list.
In his return, Mayer went one-for-three with two runs and a RBI. He also got in base with a walk.
Blaze Jordan, the Red Sox sixth ranked prospect was the key to the Salem offense. He went two-for-three with three RBI, totaling his number to 25 on the year. He also scored a run scored. Jordan hit a double, his 14th of the year and also hit a triple, his first of the year.
Juan Daniel Encarnacion recorded his fourth win of the year as he worked five innings, allowing four hits, no runs and struck out four. He lowered his ERA to 4.20.
Salem improved to 23-23 on the year as they shut down Columbia, 6-2, who fell to a horrendous 14-32 on the year.
The two clubs will have an off day on Tuesday and will resume their series on Wednesday at 7:05.
