Bears rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent worth adding if you’re in a bind heading into Week 7?
The waiver wire can be a pretty dark place when you’re in a bind trying to find players during bye weeks or if you’ve lost a key member of your starting lineup.
It’s incredibly rare to find a diamond in the rough quarterback at this juncture of the season. If you need a quarterback, you either had a poor draft or you lost a starter to an injury. Either way, let’s look at one option you can add in Bears’ backup Tyson Bagent that you can potentially target heading into Week 7.
Before claiming or dishing out a portion of your FAAB money, you should explore a trade if possible. If a trade isn’t possible, let’s look at Bagent.

The Bears are preparing to start Bagent on Sunday with Justin Fields listed as doubtful (thumb). If you’re in need of a quarterback, Bagent isn’t ideal, but with the emergence of wide receiver D.J. Moore, he could be an intriguing option on Sunday.
The rookie quarterback saw action in Week 6, he completed 10 of 14 passes for 83 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
The undrafted rookie out Shepard University shined in the Senior Bowl for the American team, completing 17 of 22 passes for 124 yards. Despite that success, he is not in the NCAA anymore and will see a faster game in the NFL.
“I think my life has been planned out for me ahead of time,” Bagent said to Chris Emma of 670 The Score. “I think everything that has happened and will happen was already set in stone to happen. And I think coming from where I come from, I’ve pretty much beat every odd that there was for me. So, I’ve got nothing to lose.”
Here’s a few reasons why you should start the rookie on Sunday.
He’s worth adding if you’re in a Superflex and two-quarterback leagues. Side note, two quarterback leagues are lame, no offense, they just are. The Raiders are allowing 17.9 Fantasy points to all opposing quarterbacks this season (CBS).
Moore has been on fire the last few weeks with Fields feeding him the pigskin. The jury is out as to the rapport Bagent and Moore will have, but the 26-year-old wide receiver has 32 receptions on 42 targets and should be the rookie’s primary target.
Usually tight ends are a rookie signal caller’s safety blanket, this week could be the same for Bagent. Most sites are advising to sit Cole Kmet if you have him, especially with the chance he’ll be used as a blocking tight end to protect the Bagent. The Raiders have given up 8.4 PPR yards to opposing tight ends this season and he could be a viable option in the red zone.
His teammates have confidence in Bagent and rookie wide receiver was complimentary to his ability to always be prepared heading into Sunday.
"He's always prepared," Scott said. "That's one thing I noticed because I sit next to him sometimes on the plane. He's always watching film, always looking over the book because [you're] one play away."
Bagent will no longer be running the scout team offense, instead he will be the No. 1 option while Fields is dealing with his dislocated right thumb.
"I think we've seen it every day since his rookie minicamp, just his poise," assistant general manager Ian Cunningham said on Aug. 30 on Bagent. "He's got this moxie, he has this confidence about him. I remember walking out of the tunnel with him against Tennessee [in the preseason] and it was like, he's been here before. Right? And he's showed it. He's displayed it ever since he's been here and then in game exposure, his accuracy, decision-making, his poise, we saw what he was able to do with his legs. I think the kid's got a bright future."
Take a gamble of Bagent if you need an outside the box option on Sunday.
