Army defeats Navy 17-11, win Commander-in-Chief’s trophy
The college football world was treated to a thrilling game between Army and Navy from Gillette Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Army came into its 124th match up against Navy, as a three-point favorite with a game total over/under set at 28.5 points. The game ended with Army stopping Navy at the goal line to secure their third win in the last five meetings.
Army sophomore linebacker Kalib Fortner had a strip sack fumble return for touchdown with 4:49 left to play to put the Black Knights up 17-3. Navy then constructed a seven-play, 59-yard touchdown response.
Facing a 4th-and-goal and down 17-9, Navy quarterback Tai Lavatai was stuffed by Fortner, leaving the quarterback six inches from the goal line, securing the win for Army.
This was the first time America’s game was held in Massachusetts, specifically Gillette Stadium where the home team, New England Patriots are off this weekend after a 21-18 win against the Steelers on Thursday Night Football.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick however was working this weekend, he was College Game Day’s special guest picker, picking Navy. Next years Army-Navy game will be hosted at Fed Ex Field in Washington D.C.
