Allen Robinson was ghosted by quarterback Matt Stafford in Week 1 loss to the Bills
The Los Angeles Rams did not look like the defending Super Bowl champions on Thursday night. Josh Allen and Buffalo Bills crushed the Rams 31-10 to kick off the 2022 NFL season.
Newly signed wide receiver Allen Robinson was a complete non-factor in the Rams loss. Prior to the start of the season, the Rams inked Robinson to a three-year, $46.5 million deal. He would only catch one ball for 12 yards in his Rams debut. Robinson was only targeted two times during the whole game.
Rams quarterback Matt Stafford seemingly ghosted his new weapon on offense and focused on Cooper Kupp, Tyler Higbee and handed the rock to Darrell Henderson Jr.
So what happened? Why did it feel like Stafford pretended Robinson wasn’t even on the field?
"We just really didn't get in much of a rhythm tonight, so it was tough to get anything," said McVay, via RamsWire. "I'd like to get Allen more involved, like to get a lot more guys involved. But overall, it was a tough night for us and it was a poor night in terms of the overall decision-making for my standpoint, and that's something I'm looking forward to correcting."
Robinson not playing in the preseason and getting game rapport with Stafford doesn’t help. To be fair, they’d wouldn’t get much time during the preseason anyway.
Stafford wasn’t sharp during the shellacking and was consistently under pressure from the Bills defense. The 34-year-old Stafford was sacked seven times. He didn’t get a lot of time to build a rapport with a new target with Von Miller breathing down his neck the entire game.
The Rams offense if going to score a lot of points this season. Kupp, Higbee and Robinson will be Stafford’s top weapons while Henderson and Cam Akers run the football. The Week 1 loss certainly made the defending Super Bowl champs look vulnerable on the field.
However, it’s only Week 1 and the Rams are an incredibly talented team. Stafford needs to get on the same page with Robinson quickly and not ghost his new weapon in the weeks to come.
