Albertson Asigen shining in Single-A
The Salem Red Sox have had an interesting lineup this season, to say the least.
Due to promotions and a few heartbreaking injuries, the turnover has been pretty ridiculous. When the season started, Salem's outfield consisted of Roman Anthony, Miguel Bleis, Allan Castro, and Juan Chacon.
First, Bleis suffered a season-ending injury. Next, Chacon went down. Then Anthony was promoted to High-A (he's since been promoted to Double-A). Finally, Castro headed up to High-A as well.
With all those losses, there were new names in the mix as well.
Salem has added Jhostynxon Garcia, Natanael Yuten, and Alexis Hernandez. Albert Feliz can play there, too. Speaking of Feliz, he's been putting on a power display recently. That's helped to keep his name in the mix in a lineup highlighted by Johanfran Garcia (Jhostynxon's younger brother), Marvin Alcantara, Nazzan Zanetello, Antonio Anderson, and other top prospects.
Then there's Albertson Asigen. Asigen is in a Salem lineup with a lot of talent, but not the best production. The right-handed hitting outfielder stands out in that department, though. Asigen is slashing .322/.446/.421 with five doubles, two triples, and one home run in Single-A. He's driven in 11 runs, scored 21 more, and stolen 12 bases in 40 games.
In a lineup that is streaky at best, Asigen has been a constant for Salem since July.
Asigen has a hit in 25-of-39 games where he's had at least one at-bat. He's reached base in 33-of-40 games. In one of the seven without reaching base, Aisgen only had one plate appearance.
So why haven't you heard about him as much? Is it because he's 22? Or could it be that he's not one of the big names on the roster? Those shouldn't matter. What does matter is performance, and Asigen has been the best hitter in Salem for two months.
Salem has had some killers in their lineup this year. Just look at what Anthony and Castro have done since getting promoted.
None of them have come close to the production of Asigen, though.
With a few games left in the season, can Asigen finish strong? So far, the answer has been yes. He's working on a three-game hitting streak that included a three-doubles game on Wednesday.
Albertson Asigen isn't considered one of the top prospects in a loaded Boston Red Sox organization, but he has positioned himself perfectly for 2024.
We've seen how much the jump from Single-A to High-A (specifically getting out of Salem's hitter death trap of a ballpark) has helped Red Sox prospects all year. With that in mind, imagine what we could see when Alberston Asigen makes his way to Fluor Field in 2024.
