AJ Greer has been a productive piece for the Bruins
With the Bruins longest break of the season now in full swing, they own the best record in the NHL. They have proven to be a handful regardless of the opponent and are finding different ways to win every night. That has partly been due to their depth and the results they are getting from players like A.J. Greer. In his first season with Boston, Greer is proving to be a useful piece.
Through 36 games this season, the former second-round pick has five goals and four assists. Those numbers may not jump off the page, but Greer’s career-high for points in a season entering the 2022-2023 campaign was three. While playing in the Bruins bottom six, the Joliette native has been a good fit.
Additionally, he is making an impact at both ends of the ice. In 329 minutes of total ice time, Greer has landed 74 hits and blocked 15 shots. He also has 12 takeaways and is not afraid to drop the gloves. As a result, Greer has been hard to keep out of the lineup. He has also come through in clutch situations with one game-winning goal.
Although the regular season is far from over, the Bruins left winger has shown that he can be a solid contributor for a contending team. He won’t be a free agent until after the 2023-2024 season and only has a cap hit of $ 775,000 next season. For the role Greer plays, that is a good deal for Boston.
When the Bruins return to action, they will need the former 39th overall pick to continue his recent play. Greer brings toughness to the Bruins lineup and occasionally provides a spark offensively. That has helped make the Bruins secondary scoring become a strength.
With the regular season at its midway point, Greer has proven to be an effective signing for the Bruins. He has been more aggressive offensively than in the past and has fit into the Bruins culture perfectly. After stops in Colorado and New Jersey, he is carving out a role in Boston.
