Adam Duvall: ‘My job is to slug and drive runners in’
Red Sox outfielder Adam Duvall is off to a torrid start at the plate to begin the season. He is currently tied with Astros power hitter Yordan Alvarez with 14 RBIs, which is most in the majors.
Duvall is scorching at the plate, he’s 14-for-29 which is good for a .483 batting average with a .545 on-base percentage, 1.138 slugging percentage, 1.683 OPS, four homers, five doubles, one triple, 14 RBIs, 11 runs.
He is currently on pace for 284 RBIs, which of course won’t happen, but right now, Duvall is dialed in at the plate.
“I don’t really think of myself as a patient person,” Duvall said to reporters following the Red Sox win on Saturday. “But I’ve been able to focus in on where I’m looking and what I’m looking for. I’m able to kind of lay off anything else. It’s cool to see I can have some patience.”
Duvall had a big game Saturday afternoon, he went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles. He now has five doubles on the young season, which is tied for second in the league and two behind Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman.
“My job is to slug and drive runners in,” Duvall said. “And so it feels good to come in and do your job. We had some extra-base hits today. Just gotta keep the bats rolling.”
Duvall is proving to be a steal for chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom early on in the season. Boston signed Duvall to a one-year, $7 million deal at the end of January. The slugger looks completely healthy, he saw his 2022 season come to an end following a freaky wrist injury.
