Adam Duvall is already swinging himself into the Red Sox's record book
While the 2023 season is only 18 innings old, Adam Duvall has already become a fan favorite in Boston. The veteran outfielder has been an extra-base hit machine and made a great first impression with his new team. As the 34-year-old provided the heroics for Boston on Saturday, he etched himself into the Red Sox record books.
With his walk-off two-run homer, Duvall became the second player in franchise history to hit a walk-off HR in either their first or second game as a member of the Red Sox, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The only other player to accomplish that feat is Jake Jones, who did it 76 years ago on June 15th, 1947.
As Duvall sent Fenway into a frenzy in an unforgettable win on Saturday, he showed the impact he could make. He has 165 home runs in his career and has excelled in high-pressure situations on playoff teams. Kenley Jansen knows firsthand, having played with Duvall in Atlanta.
“ I’m telling you, when he’s on, he’s on,” Jansen told reporters postgame. “You’re going to see this for a little bit. So you have to ride that moment. That Green Monster, he’s going to wear that out.”
Additionally, Over the last three days, Duvall has immortalized himself in Red Sox history. In that span he has he has six runs batted in. That ties a franchise record for a player in their first two games with the Red Sox. The only other players with six are Carlton Fisk and Bobby Doer.
While the season is far from over, the Kentucky native is playing a critical role in the success that the Red Sox’s offense is having. On Saturday, he fell a single short of the cycle and used the whole field to his advantage. His career in Boston is just getting started, and the Red Sox couldn’t have asked for a better beginning.
