A glance at 4 Red Sox prospects ahead of the Spring Breakout game; starting pitcher and lineup inside
Red Sox fans will get to watch the organization's top prospects and future stars on Thursday night when they participate in the Spring Breakout game on the road against the Rays.
Boston will be led by their top three prospects: Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kristian Campbell. The “Big 3” are well talked about and are knocking on the door of big leagues. Let’s take a look at some other players in the system who will get a chance to take part in the Spring Breakout game.
RHP, Yordanny Monegro
Over the last few years, Yordanny Monegro has become a name Red Sox fans have become familiar with. The talented 22-year-old has posted a 2.84 ERA in 54 minor-league games. He has impressed at every level and finished the 2024 campaign in High-A. As Monegro continued moving through the system, he put together his best season yet.
During the 2024 campaign, he set career highs in innings pitched with 76 and strikeouts with 94. He was also a frustrating matchup, as opponents only hit .182 against him. In his first taste of High-A action, the Dominican native posted a 2.73 ERA in 15 games. It was an encouraging sign for the Red Sox as Monegro continued to improve as his workload increased.
Entering the 2025 campaign, Monegro is ranked as the 23rd-best prospect in the Red Sox system by MLB Pipeline. That could change if he can continue to build on his success. In an organization full of pitching talent at the lower levels, Monegro has started to stand out.
LHP, Jojo Ingrassia
Southpaw Jojo Ingrassia had an impressive first professional season, pitching for Low-A Salem Red Sox.
Ingrassia, 22, posted a 1.85 ERA with 93 strikeouts to 20 walks in 21 games (12 starts). The former 14th-round pick split time between the rotation and the bullpen, excelling in both roles, mainly due to dealing with left elbow inflammation during the middle of the year.
“It’s weird because in high school I hated throwing out of the bullpen and loved starting,” Ingrassia said to Beyond the Monster in the offseason. “In college I kind of fell in love with being a closer because of the adrenaline and the rush you get. I kind of like the back-against-the-wall scenario. I also loved starting because you are in control of the whole game, and everyone has to go off what you do. It’s a different challenge, and I love overcoming challenges.”
OF, Miguel Bleis
Miguel Bleis enters the year as a classic bounce-back candidate after dealing with injuries the last handful of professional seasons. He suffered a shoulder subluxation in 2023 and had a down year offensively in 2024 that saw him earn a promotion to High-A Greenville.
The 21-year-old's abilities are off the charts; however, his inability to stay healthy and get consistency at the plate has tarnished his stock some. He offers the raw abilities of a superstar that pair with plus supporting tools. The five-tool player hasn’t really hit to his projections in the minors, leaving many to question whether he has enough in his bat to hit at the upper levels or even the big levels.
IB/OF, Justin Gonzales
Justin Gonzales split the 2024 campaign between DSL Red Sox Blue and DSL Red Sox Red. In 47 games, he slashed .320/.391/.517, leading to him being named a DSL All-Star and playoff MVP.
“He’s a monster,” Red Sox assistant general manager Eddie Romero said of Gonzales when speaking with The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier last offseason. “He’s advanced physically compared to other guys. But the thing that stood out as he’s developed is his hand-to-eye. We know he can make a lot of good contact, and he’s really honed his approach in terms of attacking pitches.”

What's Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story's 'gentleman's bet' with All-Star MVP Jarren Duran for this coming season?
Trevor Story was a late scratch from the Red Sox lineup on Tuesday afternoon because of upper-back tightness. Boston labeled the move as more precautionary than anything and expects the veteran shortstop back in the lineup on Wednesday.
