12 Red Sox players on WBC rosters
The rosters for the World Baseball Classic were officially announced on Thursday. Rafael Devers, Masataka Yoshida, Alex Verdugo and Kiké Hernández lead a list of 12 Red Sox players who’ll be participate.
Red Sox participating in the World Baseball Classic:
Canada: Nick Pivetta
Colombia: Jorge Alfaro, Rio Gomez (Double-A Portland)
Dominican Republic: Rafael Devers
Israel: Richard Bleier
Japan: Masataka Yoshida
Mexico: Alex Verdugo, Jarren Duran
Netherlands: Kenley Jansen
Puerto Rico: Kiké Hernández, Edwin Diaz (MiLB deal)
Venezuela: Norwith Gudino (MiLB deal)
Devers will be fun for Red Sox fans to watch in the upcoming tournament. The All-Star third baseman is coming off signing his massive extension with the Sox.
Top prospect Ceddanne Rafaela will not be participating, he was not announced for the Netherlands roster. Jansen is not participating for the Netherlands in the pool portion of play in the World Baseball Classic. He’s in the designated player pool.
The World Baseball Classic begins with the pool stage on March 8 with Pool A in Taiwan, Pool B in Japan, Pool C in Phoenix, and Pool D in Miami. For the full list of teams and a look at the bracket.
